Anyone with a boat knows there are always heads ( toilet) issues- often blockages or leaks. Had more than our fair share over the years but our first job in France, after a late lunch of charcuterie and fromage, was to catch the bus to the other marina where the chandlery is. Had to buy a new pump for the heads.
On our return trip last month we brought out a new pump to replace a cracked one which was leaking sea water slightly. Best side for a leak, a plus in the whole scheme of things! Cost £93 and F fitted it on our return to the boat. 3 weeks later an identical crack appeared in the new one, larger this time and leaking so much sea water (thankfully, again on the intake side and not the discharge) that it had to be turned off altogether.
New pump bought £124! Let’s face it, they could have charged anything and we would have paid it! Now fitted and should be good. (Ed. Very tempted to take the old pump back to the UK and return it to the supplier. Although, plonking that on their counter might well get me banned from the shop)
Knew the weather was going to break, hence the need to motor to maintain a good average speed to stay ahead of the weather. Sure enough, heavy rain and strong winds during the night and most of the day. Didn’t stop us from doing laundry and visiting a boulangerie despite getting soaked. Will be here a few days before we can cross the channel.
