The more we hear about Ted, the more we realise how well deserved his award is. He is a true titan of the club. Doug and Dale Bruce, who co-edited our Newfoundland Pilot book, drove all the way from Maine to present the award on behalf of the OCC. They had circumnavigated Newfoundland five times over the years, so have much to tell. It was a great evening, met several OCC members, as well as RNYC members and over the last couple of days have been given numerous tips and pieces of advice for sailing to Lewisporte.
Today turned out to be a lovely sunny day, so the bikes were dug out and a cycle along the old railway line was planned. Got as far as Foxtrap harbour.

Interesting to read about the “Battle of Fox Trap” and how ownership of land came from use and occupation. It was the women who rebelled against the building of the railway, as the men were away fishing in Labrador. To diffuse the situation, the railway was built right on the coast, where no land was being worked.
Cycling was hard going on the gravel with the Brompton’s small wheels so decided to head back via the Liquor Store and Sobey’s Supermarket.

Able to fit 3 bottles of wine in each handlebar bag and carry a few light groceries in rucksacks. F even had a box of beer on his rear rack but back at the boat , no longer elasticated and ancient bungee cord finally gave up (thankfully without dunking the beer in the marina) - another job! No longer a dry boat.
