Someone is conspiring against us.

Left Lunenburg Yacht Club yesterday later than expected, after completing a couple of more jobs. F went halfway up the mast to fit the lines for the spinnaker pole and fitted a couple of pad eyes (metal loops) on the end of the boom onto which to tie the end of the sail bag. 2 more jobs down. Feeling pleased with ourselves.
Left the buoy to anchor for lunch. Took some time as local anchorages have been filled with public buoys and were very busy due to the glorious weather.
Finally anchored off Masons Island in Mahone Bay, together with numerous other people including a raft of 4 power boats with music booming out.
Decided to stay overnight and by the
morning had the bay to ourselves.

Plan was to set off finally towards Halifax but A had smelled exhaust fumes yesterday, so boat ripped apart again and F investigated thoroughly this morning.

Bad news. Discovered a hole in the exhaust system . Like the tap previously, the water mixer elbow had rusted from the inside out. A heat shield was fashioned out of foil, some rather old epoxy plugged the hole and we gingerly used engine purely to leave anchorage and pick up a buoy at the other end. The winds were light but in our favour. We put all the new sails to the test, were impressed with the new staysail.

Now back on Pat’s mooring down from the yacht club. He put us in touch with a diesel engine specialist, photos and serial numbers emailed and hopefully parts and repair will happen soon.
Back on the mooring in time to go to the local farmers’ market only held on weekends. Launched the dinghy and that, too, had an annoying leak at the bung, so had to be removed and sealed with plumbers tape before good to go.
Decided to treat ourselves to a beer and wifi. Arrived at the club - closes at 2pm on Sundays. The delights of sailing. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s glamorous.
