Monday morning , first stop the hardware store. Only knew about this from the manager of the supermarket. No name on the outside, no indication that it was even a shop or what it sold. Later the marina manager told us that they don’t need signage as it’s a small island and everyone knows where they are. F very pleased to be able to replace his cheapo & broken 110v US drill with a European cordless drill and metric drill bits.
Back to bedlam in the container port. Jenga sprang to mind watching some of the trucks being loaded and given a cursory push to test if the load would topple.

Managed to do everything on deck, mindful of the weather coming in. Removed the bimini, while it was dry for sewing over the winter. Sure enough, it was very windy this morning, the barrier was closed to the port itself. Not surprising, considering the size of the waves breaking over the breakwater and cascading over the walkway. All cranes are still, no work being done there today.

Paid our marina bill, for haul out and 6 months on the hard, plus eye watering €6 for each wash plus same for a tumble dry, of which there have been several!! It’s standardised throughout the Azores’ marinas. The manager of the boatyard is due to come to the boat at 5pm to check it over before we leave but the heavens have opened!
The OCC Port Officer, also the pilot for the port, told us the waves in São Miguel were 9 metres but only 4m in Flores, which seems strange considering Hurricane Kirk has moved further north. They were huge here.
