After a sound night’s sleep, woke to a beautiful view of the castle and beach. Sines is the birthplace of Vasco da Gama “in about 1460” and his statue can be seen on the left of the castle. There is also a monument to him in Angra, the start of our trip, as he landed there in 1499 to bury his brother who perished at sea on their return voyage from India.

Had decided to adapt to the heatwave, have an early(ish) start, have a siesta then continue with jobs into the evening as temperatures predicted to be in 30s today. Up promptly and went into a marina berth. Several people helped to take our lines, much appreciated as both feeling jaded.
Checked in at reception, then started the task of cleaning up. Binned the idea of doing the laundry, only 1 machine working and mounds of washing waiting from another boat. Were given a tip that the laundrette in the town was cheaper and better!
Set to with A hosing down while F worked out how to fix the staysail furler, discovered two screws were missing, probably shaken loose by all the pounding. Need to check the screws in other furler are still there!
There was a steady northerly breeze which reduced the forecast temperature considerably. Perfect conditions and a pleasure to be outside. Had to bin the siesta!
Hosed ourselves down afterwards in the very clean smart showers. A treat after a week of wipes! The smart marina building was here 10 years ago but the marina itself has been enlarged after suffering storm damage a couple of years ago. We’re at the outer edge, meaning a long walk to and from the facilities.
