Frustrated at not having identified the bird in the rigging. Sitting having lunch in cockpit, got a bird’s eye view (!) of an osprey, which landed on the stump of a broken branch on a tree alongside us. It had a hefty fish in its talons and proceeded to eat it for the duration of our meal. It remained perched there for sometime afterwards, satisfyingly replete. Definitely the “ fish hawk” that disturbed us, but it’s not a hawk, neither is it an eagle but in a family of its own.

Pity no telephoto lens on board.
Made the most of the yacht club yesterday. Generator defunct and no engine, so no means of heating the water on board except the kettle. Showers and laundry done at the club before indulging in their Sunday Brunch, which made a welcome change. Eggs Benedict a favourite over here.
Witnessed an osprey fishing very close to the clubhouse, plunging feet first to catch the fish in its talons, undeterred by all the human activity round about.
Today is a public holiday, so no further forward with spare parts etc. Cruising permit expires on 28th so we’re hoping to be in the French Islands of St Pierre et Miquelon off Newfoundland before then so we can then reenter Canada and reset the clock. French wine and cheese also appeal!
