Arrived in Baddeck and made straight for the marina shop, checking things out for next year. Happy memories of when we were last here.
Heard of crew being hired to sail boats to US after being launched by the marina, with owner stuck in Germany. Heard too, from a surveyor, of boats being sold in Cape Breton, by Europeans unable to get back here. Can’t imagine anyone being able to begin to sort out Scot Free.
Went for a coffee in Bean There, a favourite haunt 2 years ago. Only takeaways to drink outside. A catalogue of disasters with a bird, some well aimed droppings and an ill-fitting lid, suffice to say our relaxing coffee ended up with a trip to the laundrette to wash jeans and polo shirt (reminiscent of that old TV beer ad). A knew there was a reason for carrying round the laundry card for 2 years.
Increased our step count and did the Uisge Ban Falls trail. A walk through stunning scenery and vibrant colours up to the waterfalls.
Visited old haunts, in addition to the laundrette, the yacht club, where they were live streaming Celtic Colours, an annual music event which we’d been to live 2 years ago. Had a great meal at the Freight Shed on the quay and met a couple from Germany who’d bought a boat in Nova Scotia just before Covid struck. They’re staying at The Water’s Edge Inn and gallery, as are we.
