A slow sail and a late start for our trip to Santa Maria. Had to check that they had a berth, then had to clear out of São Miguel and top up with fuel, so it was almost 11ambefore we were really underway.
The undersized cruising chute came into its own again but there was a wind shadow between the islands so had to motor some of the way.

Unusual for F to enjoy the sunset- his watch meant he was usually in bed. The moon was very bright again and made night sailing very clear. Magical skies. Even so, didn’t anchor until 3 am in the bay next to the marina. Very jaded to say the least.

Went into the marina as soon as we surfaced. Chose berth next to the police boat, a RIB like a giant fender. She should be safe!

An odd set up. Not really supposed to leave the boat in the water unattended. Marina responsible for the hoist and lifting out, boatyard responsible for the stands and storage. Someone is checking on her for us but we do wonder if we’ll return to find her on the hard which is the normal arrangement for boats left for more than a week! The only swell here is from the occasional boat or fishing boat in the harbour. F can rest easy.
All packed up and in the Club Navale for supper before taxi to airport and 30 minute flight back to Ponta Delgada, a few hours in a hotel room then early flight to Gatwick. Home for 3 weeks. Have an important Beerfest to go to!
