Sails off

A perfect day for removing the sails, 21 degrees and not a breath of air. One down, two to go. The stay sail is easy to manage as it’s relatively small.

Next one, the yankee, came down no problem, but folding it was a challenge. Had two tarpaulins spread out on the rather green pontoon, but the shape of the sail plus the stiff fabric of the new sails made it difficult to fold small enough to get into the bag.

Too hot for the overalls!!

Started on the main, by removing the reefing lines, but time and energy running out, so put on hold til tomorrow. Had booked a table for supper at 7pm, at “the best that Lewisporte has to offer”. Arrived after a 2 mile walk, (Ed. badly underestimated by the organiser) one of us particularly grumpy by then, to be the only people in the restaurant. A largish party were completing their meal in a side room. The waiting staff assured us they’d been full at 5pm, we do eat late, by Canadian standards.
Decided to share the shrimp starter - 6 small deep fried prawns arrived, sliding around on a plate unceremoniously dumped on the table, with nothing else. Sauce missing, no garnish, not a good start. The mains were ok but with the prospect of a 2 mile walk back, the whole experience was disappointing and hardly worth the effort. Trying to eke out what provisions we have left until we get the hire car on Monday and we can restock, without carrying heavy rucksacks.
Enjoyed the Harvest Moon, albeit a couple of days after the full moon but still pretty spectacular.
