Had a brief walk along the picturesque historical waterfront yesterday. Settlers first arrived in 1783 and the town rapidly became a fishing and shipbuilding centre. Fishing is still a big industry today. The Fishermen’s Memorial was very poignant.

Some very attractive buildings, deserving more exploration today.

Met the innkeeper of the wonderful Cooper’s Inn outside the closed Tourist Office. He stepped in and provided us with all the leaflets we needed. Everyone is so kind and friendly- just like Scotland!
A couple of OCC members from Ruby Tuesday knocked on the hull in the morning, having seen our burgee. They recommended the mussels from the supermarket; at £1.20 a pound we just had to. They were delicious - worth the 20 minute walk. Arranged to have
drinks with them later at the Yacht Club in the evening. Always good to exchange tales.
Shelburne is gearing up for Founders’ Day celebrations this weekend. Sadly, we will have left.
