An amusing sign at the gate of the pontoon. If only it were that simple!
Experiencing the very real extremes of Newfoundland weather. Much colder here than in Nova Scotia, which benefits from a little ribbon of Gulf Stream; thanks to the south flowing Labrador current, plus icebergs, Spring/Summer can be very late to arrive here. Yesterday’s temperature didn’t rise above 1 degree. Someone was known to wear socks in bed! One drawback of the efficient heating is that there is no timer, so same someone has to get out of the bunk to switch it on.
This week looks very promising, may even exchange boots and oilskins for shorts!
Keeping an eye on the iceberg charts showing icebergs, bergy bits and growlers ( genuine terms) in “Iceberg Alley” There are 10 today north of Notre Dame Bay and 10 more near Fogo Island. Sailing will be interesting.
Bergy bits are medium to large fragments of ice between 1 and 5 m high. Growlers are roughly the size of a truck or grand piano! Wouldn’t want to hit any of them.
