I gave A a guarantee of a fast passage to Porto with waves less than 2m. Well….. I got the fast part correct. We have never sailed so fast, the new sails and rig really work well. Slowing the boat down in big seas, to avoid slamming, is now the challenge. Unfortunately, the gap between two weather systems which I was aiming for seems to be closing. The seas are building and winds are due to get very strong all the way down the Portuguese coast. Nothing too dramatic, but it’s a wide area of strong winds which would mean two rough nights crossing it. We are having a cautious year after all the ops. and birthdays. So, we will probably head for Spain initially, which will add a few days onto the trip. I started looking out my fishing gear but A’s reaction was to start writing ration cards.
