Thursday was a calm but cold day, so layers on and the genoa and staysail were finally bent on. She’s looking more like a sailing boat. Still need to put the three reefing lines in the mainsail and feed lines back to the cockpit.
Had a well earned break for a late lunch at Kindens Bakery where A had moose soup on her birthday. It is just at the entrance to the marina, a little too convenient. Have turned out to be rather frequent visitors, enjoying their good coffee, great selection of paninis and desserts, not to mention three moose dishes, all of which have been tried.
At the “gathering” on Monday, there was much discussion about the dangerous wildlife - bears, moose, coyote, coywolf and lynx. Some were more concerned about aggressive moose, especially in the rutting season, rather than bears!! Frankly rather glad not to be here on a hiking holiday!
F read a great article on advice for hikers in the back-woods. They are advised to carry pepper spray and to tie small bells (as used for cats) on clothing and back-packs to alert the bears. Also, keep an eye out for bear droppings easily identified because they usually smell of pepper and contain small bells…….
