A colourful and picturesque street leading to the church.
The inside is adorned with flowers as today is the last day of the religious festival, Our Lady of Ascension, the patron saint. Sadly we’re missing the music festival next week. Honky Tonk Sail is in the marina and practising regularly. Shame we won’t be here for them.
After lunch, continued the tour of the island. Nothing is very far away, the island extends 7 miles from north east to south west, but it is very mountainous and the roads are tortuous.
Using an 7 year old guide book and map, things are not quite as expected. Hoped to visit the bakery in Santo Espírito and the church. The former didn’t exist and the latter was closed.
Stopped at a viewpoint overlooking São Lourenço, the second white beach.
The view point was well kitted out with a round table in a thatched building, with bbq facilities. Three people were enjoying a cooked lunch with a bottle of wine- we weren’t invited.
The last day of the festival ended with music outside the brightly illuminated convent.
A drumming band- very young and energetic followed by a young lady singer and her supporting band, Mimicat- very loud and very bright lights.
