Met up with an OCC committee member, also coauthor of the latest edition of Atlantic Islands, our pilot book. She joined us for coffee on the boat then took us back to her house/ small holding in Calheta where she and her husband entertained us to a delightful bbq lunch. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of people in the sailing community.
They have numerous vines, bananas, oranges, vegetables all grown on terraces dug into the steep slope, quite an undertaking looking after all that. We admired some Bishop’s Crown chili peppers and she kindly picked a handful for us to take back to the boat.
The drive took us past a viewpoint overlooking the marina, offering a clear view of the faja.

Drove through Urzelina, which suffered hugely in the 1808 eruption. Lava flowed down and buried everything except the church tower.

Many villagers had sheltered in the church and were either buried or suffocated.

Another attractive pavement design by the harbour.

It was a fun day.
