Back to the boat, engine on and off to Horta, only 5 miles across the water, but the only place to refill the gas.
Anchored once more, in Bad Company, last seen in Ponta Delgada.

The harvest moon shone brightly over the harbour. Didn’t stay up to see the partial eclipse in the early hours.

Had a very disturbed night with, what we thought were various lines whanging. Although this was a new noise, sounding like a hammer drill ashore. F tied all the usual suspects back at various times throughout the night but failed to silence them. Only in the morning was it clear that two of the metal shrouds were just touching and vibrating in the wind, the sound had been reverberating down the mast, near F’s head in the bunk.
Took gas bottle to be refilled,to collect later in the afternoon, then walked to Continente for a shop. Beginning to suffer the effects of scurvy, very few fresh fruit and vegetables - fresh being paramount. Many are going off almost as soon as they arrive on the shelves. Vitamin C levels low but D high from the sun, whereas cholesterol levels must be sky high from excessive consumption of excellent cheese. Taxi back to dinghy pontoon to save our knees and hips.
Collected gas bottle and set off back to the rolly anchorage in Madalena.
