Anchored off Wolfe Island, bear Ship Harbour, giving us protection from the worst of the wind and seas. It is just west of The 100 Wild Islands, a little known 30 km archipelago, protected by the Nova Scotia Nature Trust. The total land area is 7,000 acres but the total 'footprint' is 46,000 acres. Vast!

It all looked very grey this morning in the drizzle. Full oilskins needed for the first time.

Had a very fast sail 8-9 knots, again with biggish seas, along the Eastern Shore towards Cape Breton and the Bras d’Or (pronounced br uh door) Lakes. Decided to call it a day and come into another sheltered spot for a late lunch. Notable how many trees are stripped of their foliage.

Bit of a heart stopping moment when we dropped the sails and started the engine in the final, narrow, twisting channel into the harbour. No cooling water coming out of the engine exhaust port!!! Sail unfurled, anchor readied and a quick look at the engine. The fast sail had sucked water from the engine intake and it wasn’t priming. 2 litres into the strainer solved the problem, just before we had to demonstrate anchoring-under-sail.
Rain has stopped but now the fog has rolled in. The forecast was correct. Hot showers are calling and slipper socks on the Xmas list.
