Another frustrating start

A day of jobs. Another one added to the list. There was no water coming out of the outboard yesterday, risking overheating so F checked it over, removed the lid and poked a bit of wire into the hole and water gushed out. Something had been blocking it. Couldn’t risk going to Newfoundland with a dodgy outboard as we’ll need to use it a lot.
A flat calm this morning, so raised the main to dry it, there has been a LOT of rain, having suffered mildew on our previous sails we know it is near impossible to remove.
With the sail hoisted, able to retie the reefs to our satisfaction. May need tweaking again next season.
Next up, the rev counter, lovingly carried out in hand luggage. An expensive item so couldn’t afford to lose it- also the reason we or rather F hadn’t bought one before! Our last-ditch effort to escape the dreaded “software” message. Easier to install than expected, then F asked A to switch on engine battery down below. With bated breath F switched on the power on the pad below the rev counter and was immediately greeted by the alarm. Success! Hooray, at last.

Two for one here- our reflections are in the very shiny new glass.
The sniffer dog at the airport wasn’t interested in our rev counter or all the taps (water not threading traps) spares, screws and a dinghy seat bag which took up an entire bag. We were travelling light, for once. It was interesting to watch as the dog kept pace with and on the conveyor belt, where the cases emerged which allowed the handler, when alerted, to remove some and check the contents. We didn’t see any arrests though.
Anchor locker screws with nuts also replaced today, so lids shouldn’t disappear again into the locker. Another very fiddly job.
Had a visit from our owner’s representative, who dropped off our plumbing parts for the two loos. His parting words were “that’s probably the last of your mission critical tasks” (wishful thinking??). Have to replace a pump on one and the outlet pipes on both. Not something we’re relishing. F now reading instructions for the pump (very unusual). Will have to wait until tomorrow.
