The Marina du Château shares an outer entrance with the major French naval base. Just as we were approaching, getting fenders and mooring lines ready, a navy escort craft came screaming up to us to forbid us from entering. Looking round, realised a rather modern naval vessel was approaching which then proceeded to fire its canon numerous times in close proximity. Hearing will never be the same!
It was the lead frigate Amiral Ronarc’h fdi ( Defence and Intervention) commissioned this year which has just returned from its 4th sea trials.
The search and rescue boat gave a fine water fountain display with its fire hoses as did another fireboat. Thought they were celebrating our arrival!
The marina gets its name from the castle above it- something for another day.
