Back on the other side, opposite Monte Brasil, the obelisk, Monument to King Dom Pedro IV, towers over the city.

Saw numerous tiny chapels on our tours, only used between Easter and Pentecost, dedicated to the Holy Spirit, all of the same design, a single door flanked by a window each side.

The buildings are very colourful, notably the pink and white cathedral.

The Palace of the Captains-General is also remarkable, seen here from the exceptional botanical gardens.

Thoroughly enjoyed being driven around in a small open top vehicle, got a good flavour of the city and it saved our legs.
Met up in the evening with the OCC rally. A number of boats are cruising in company, exploring the Azores before going on to Madeira and the Canaries. 8 different nationalities, amongst 18 people. The events on Terceira are being organised by the local Port Officer who kindly invited us to join them in the evenings. Tonight was at the local sailing club for nibbles and drinks. Great fun.
