Walked up to The Rooms, a modern art gallery and museum, a beautiful building getting its name and architectural style from the gable ended fishermen’s rooms or sheds, which used to be seen on most waterfronts, like the ones in Quidi Vidi.

It is a stunning building with floor to ceiling windows and polished granite floors. A great way to get some background knowledge on the province, Newfoundland and Labrador. Interesting exhibitions on the different indigenous peoples, the settlers, mainly Irish in this area. Museums and art galleries on each floor, including a World War 1 gallery, commemorating the Newfoundland Regiments.
First stop was the cafe on the top floor of The Rooms. Had a window table and enjoyed the panoramic view down over the harbour and over to Signal Hill. What started as a foggy day, rapidly became scorching hot.

A great view over the container port where Scot Free is moored.

St John’s is famous for it’s “jellybean” houses -very aptly named, loved the mail boxes which depict them.

Had delicious ice cream from The Parlour. Timed it badly just as first day of school was over, a lot of hot, red faced, children being given a treat. A long queue but worth it.
Big music scene here but sadly after so much walking and early start tomorrow had an early night.
