Horta is renowned for its maritime art. Every stone surface, horizontal and vertical, has been covered with boat and crew names with dates, some very basic and others extremely artistic, many very old. It’s an old superstition that you must leave a picture to ensure safe travel to your next destination. Probably a good idea to adhere to that!
Café Sport is always an extremely popular venue, decorated with numerous country flags and club burgees. We were lucky to get a table the other night.
Still amazed at how cheap most things are. €3 for a new watch battery. 4€ for watch strap repair( the kind chap even drilled a small hole)Had to get an emergency prescription, running out of tablets. Asked for 10 days worth, only had packet of 60, expecting to pay huge amount - €4.76. Crazy prices. Compare that to cost of prescriptions in UK!
Laundry day again today, did a lot of to-ing and fro-ing in the dinghy to the far end of the marina - not without incident. In order to make sure the large external tank was empty of old fuel, petrol needed to be transferred from the external tank to integral tank in the outboard using a little adaptor which promptly popped off and dropped into the tank! Some time was spent fishing it out! (Ed. Think I may have OD’d on the petrol fumes during this delicate operation) All this housekeeping has taken its toll, time to lie down.
Pico mountain on Pico Island clearly visible above the clouds from our anchorage in Horta. Don’t think we’ll be making that 5 hour climb.
