Big afternoon yesterday. A 80ft motor yacht came in to moor close to us. I told them they were too close and had laid their anchor chain over Westralia's. They ignored me and proceeded to run stern lines to shore. I went over in the dinghy and explained that a) they had laid their anchor chain over ours and b) our swing around our anchor position could mean we may contact their boat given they were close and tied off stern to shore. I said I would be leaving in the morning and they needed to be prepared should I catch their anchor chain. I also said there is lot bay here and they could have positioned 200 metres away. Any way, after about half an hour they decided to move. In the process one of their props picked up our anchor chain and it dragged Westralia. I let out chain quickly to stop hitting their boat. They had a major dilemma with Westralia's chain wrapped around their prop.
Took the dinghy over and assisted the skipper to try and untangle the chain. Very difficult free diving under the  motor yacht, we manoeuvred Westralia and tied off to their boat, carefully raised our chain, tied it off to the motor yacht and then lowered some chain to take tension off the section fouling the large prop. We managed to free some of it when, fortunately, a dive boat came by and a scuba diver did the rest. Myself and the skipper were knackered by this stage.

I said you owe me at least one beer! So Matt and I returned to their motor yacht where they gave us excellent white wine and the on board Chilean chef prepared an excellent meal, including vegetarian for Matt!.

Guests were 2 very nice Greek couples, Nicosia and Linda, Alex and ? (Cannot returned her Greek name). They were very happy I assisted and that I did not lose it after telling them initially they were too close and then the chain fouling the prop! The skipper will probably have nightmares over the potential damage to the motor yacht starboard prop.Image
