Haithem picked us up at 2pm and took us for a tour around Bizerte. Wonderful markets selling herbs and spices, all manner of fish freshly caught, and much more. Fascinating viewing of an old city with a very relaxed attitude to life and acceptance of religious belief, varying from very liberal Islam in western dress, to the full burqa, to Christian and Jewish faith. Despite not being a tourist city of note, we never felt uncomfortable at any time. Most people spoke French and many English. The French influence is very obvious.
That evening we ate at the Sport Nautique restaurant and had one of the best seafood meals I have ever had. The Tunisian beer, Celtia, was excellent as was the medium dry Tunisian white wine.
