We departed Carloforte at 7am and motored our way out of shallow waters between Isola di S. Petro and Sardinia before heading north. Winds of 30knots plus made it hard going on a close reach, and we had 84kn to go! The main was doubled reefed and we had a small triangle of jib out, making 5kns. At one stage we considered heading into Oristano as progress was slow and conditions difficult. However the winds settled to about 20kns and swung around to W of NW and we managed to get Westralia up to plus 8kns so made good time. As we approached Alghero, about 20nm out, the winds dropped considerably and we motored in calmer waters into the port. Dolphins surfed the bow wave for some time and escorted us towards our finish point.
