This series of pix shows an old Cathedral dedicated to St Luois, built by the French between 1884 and 1890. The location was selected as it was where French King Louis IX died in 1246, during the siege of Tunis in the eighth crusade. It is now deconsecrated and is a venue for cultural events.
The latter pix show some of the ruins of Cathage with Tunis city in the background. The history from the time of the Phoenicians establishing the city in 814BC, to becoming the capital of the Punic empire, through to the Punic wars resulting in the Romans razing it to the ground in 146BC. Subsequently the Romans returned from 122BC and rebuilt the city.
