The astute reader will have noticed day two is missing. That’s because the days are pretty much the same. The wind drops off  just after midnight then fills in just before dawn. Sometime in the afternoon it drops off gain until around dusk then fills in again. Never moiré than about 10-12kts and the sea can get a bit lumpy first thing then gets calmer.

The day is spent catching up on sleep and the nights are spent trying to stay awake and dodge fish traps/rafts. This morning I found myself right in the middle of maybe 100 of the things, some huge with arc lights and a generator to power the lights and some a lot smaller. Fish traps on an industrial scale on fact. This was just off the coast of the island of Java which I think I’m right in saying is the most densely populated island, so it makes sense. There was also the odd gas/oil rig to contend with in the last couple of days. What fun.

As I write, 1130 on the 30th, I have a tad over 60nm to go. Timing should work out about right for arrival land fall after daybreak tomorrow. Ironiclly, given the ‘gentile pace’ the problem may be to slow down tonight. Right now I’m planning on just a pit-stop to catch up on some sleep, then off again to Manggar on East Belitung where there are six days of activities planned, including 100 litres of free fuel which will be nice. I’ve motored about 24 hours so far in total, so maybe used about 35-40 litres of fuel.

After east Belitung it will be hop north to Lagoi on the Island of Bintan, about 20nm from Singapore. I have to be out of Indonesia by the 30th October so timing is tight but does allow some ‘R&R’ along the way.

I doubt if there’ll be any 3G coverage at Marimunjawa so this will get posted when it gets posted J
