we think the autopilot will now work after David spent a heroic day tracking down a mystery fault in the rudder position sensor-system. Right now it passes all the static checks so just the 'real thing' to go.
In the course of checking the autopilot function we discovered an overheating engine! So far that hasn't been cured, there seems to be an airlock in the freshwater cooling system that refuses to go away, that after we removed the thermostat to see what happened. Today David will strip the heat exchanger and we'll see what's what. Great chap, without his help I would have been totally screwed. I said to him to imagine that I was taking him and Sylvie out for a good meal, then poured him a glass of pineapple wine!
Assuming all is well, check out and leave tomorrow, Monday 19th. The five day forecast is for the proverbial 15kts up the chuff for the first couple of days, then light for a couple of days then maybe a 20kt blow lasting a few hours. That probably translates into 15-20kts for a day or so, then a flat calm and a day of stronger winds, but seemingly all in the right direction!
If departure is delayed I'll let you know.
Good sailing to all friends who are on the move or soon to be. Fair winds and all that.
