Local businessman Keith took me for a coffee, then drove me round to the fuel-pump hire shop. Yes, they had one available. I sent a text to Martin, get it ASAP please.
We then went for a 45 minute drive to pick up Keith's restoration project, an elderly Jaguar XJ6. Just like the one's my Father had. Ah, memories! I drove the Toyota Landcruiser back. Interesting device. Nice to drive a decent machine again.
After admiring the collection of electric guitars (a couple of Fenders, a Gibson and something else) it was back to the yacht club. Martin would pick the pump up at 4pm. Yippee. I went off to the ATM to get F$60 for the pump +F$300 for fuel. Card in...nada! Sorry, refer to your bank. tried another ATM. Same same.
Back to el Barco. Rang card company. Telephone service unavailable (being Barclays, they were probably all out fixing interbank rates).
Right, pick up passport and rush downtown to the bank. Arrived at 4.03. Bank closes at....4pm.
Back to boat, can't do anything about the pump now, everywhere closes at 5pm. Have a couple of beers and a yarn. Back to boat, SKYPE card company. I have all the wrong numbers. Skype keeps dropping off line so I only get 7 digits of the correct number and computer battery is flat. no credit on mobile.
This morning. Put F$11 credit on phone and call card company.
'Your call is very important to us etc etc etc.'
After hanging on for F$6 worth of minutes, I hang up. Just about to try again, then it's off to bank with passport to see what happens.
Life eh?
It's known as the Fiji factor and it IS a conspiracy.
