Engine part One

After a frantic week or so of writing the next Karno novel and getting about a quarter of the way through it  I decided I'd really better make a start on the engine. The results have been disappointing in that the easy fixes haven't worked.

Disconnecting the fuel pipe from the first inline filter and blowing hard produced a lively bubbling sound in the fuel tank and a lingering aftertaste of 'Chateau Diesel' (non-vintage).

I also have to report that when moving the throttle in the 'in-gear' position movement occurs at the engine end. The engine continues to rev its head off in neutral and nada in gear, forward or reverse..

That leaves the fuel pipe from the in line filter to the engine to blow through/ream out and just possibly I suppose change the in-line filter again. After that it will be a case of injector pump out and into a local 'mantling shop' Before that though some intensive study of the workshop manual. There is a recommended diesel mechanic lurking around the place and I might just get a quote for removing/testing injectors and injector pump. It might be money well spent and would/could cut down the time spent in the marina which in itself would be a saving, albeit a small one.

The leaks have both slowed up which reinforces my opinion that both are the result of de-lamination somewhere rather than a gaping hole. A shame really in a way because that means I'm going to have to find some way of hauling out. That of course isn't a money-saving scheme. Boats eh?

The weather continues to be warm but unsettled. I just know those of you in Europe/UK will be awfully sympathetic to a temperature of mid-twenties and warm rain. What can I say?

Most boats in the Sail Malaysia Rally appear to be leaving tomorrow so I'm looking forward to lightning fast free wifi in the marina!
