rather than a public message. For everybody else who may be reading sorry
this is a bit enigmatic.
Just abpout to leave for 'work', as I said yesterday one problem in
cleaning up is seeing all the damage and not being well versed in GRP
repairs thinking the worst. What I have been told is that any insurance
company, given the salvage difficulties, would have written off the boat
so lucky that Henning (Smiley) never gave up. The sad thing is that there
are a few 'experts' out here who criticise. All I can say is that I
couldn't have done any better (much worse actually) on my own. The help
from the Yacht Club has been fantastic and if a professional salvage
expert might have done things differently, well fair enough but we dealt
with the situation as we saw it at the time. The fact that the boat
actually survived two weeks on a reef is a tribute to the builders and the
fact that we got her ashore is a tribute to (mainly) one man's unflagging
tenacity. Certainly there were times when I was tempted to walk away and
even the ever-enthusisatic Willie, Paul and Temmo from the RSYC had their
doubts from time to time. Again, thanks to all who physically helped,
thanks to those onshore who were encouraging and thank you all in
'electric land' who sent encouraging emails and all those positive vibes.
Still no camera I'm afraid although I was sure I had taken the SLR off the
boat, but Vince has taken some photos and when he & I have some mutual
time to spare I'll put them on the blog.
