From Scotland Bay, we went round to La Vache Bay,
10.45.990N 61.28.388W for those with Google Earth (north coast of
Trini)
A very attractive anchorage with caves and
waterfalls. We now have a new anchoring technique: Pam and Jim on the foredeck
drop the anchor when indicated (SPLASH). I go forward and help with the bridle
and then SPLASH, the sound of 'Sammie the Seal' (Cadey) going in for a
swim. She found the cave with the waterfall, so we all went in the dingy and
filled up a couple of Jerry cans of fresh water.
One night in La Vache, then on to Grande Riviere,
10.50.121N 61.02.831W. A pleasant anchorage spoilt by two things:
1) three very suspicious locals in a pirogue who
'mooched aroud' asking for cigarettes and telling us not to worry because they
weren't going to rob us (?). Very reassuring that was.
2) The ancor really managed to find a great rock to
wrap itself around. With a water visibility of about 5 feet (in 10 metres of
water) throwing Sammie in to free it wasn't an option. We motored around the
chain a bit then just before I felt the donning of diving gear was
inevitable the chain worked free...yippee!!
We then had a pleasant sail over to Tobago, only
marred by the Gennaker having a rip in it (oh bugger, more expense). So,
Gennaker away, working gib out and a bit of a slow sail in the sunshine. Saw
some dolphins, maybe a couple of whales and generally had a good time after a
suicidally early start (up at 0530).
Charlotteville looks very pleasant, ashore this
morning to see Customs and have a mooch around.
