Anchor up 0703, anchor down 1607, 15/06/13

A deeper anchorage than I would have liked, I have 50 metres of chain down so that’ll be fun in the morning then!

A very pleasant night last night in stokes Bay. The coral contact I mentioned was more of a slide over a smooth rock, or at least that’s what I’m telling myself. No new leaks at any rate.

Today was a pleasant enough day but no wind. I sailed for about the first 30 minutes then motor-sailed the rest of the way (a total distance of 37nm). I could have sailed for a while but could only make 3kts SOG and I definitely wanted to be here in daylight! The ‘official forecast’ was for 20-25kts but the GRIB files Paul downloaded were indicating more like maximum 13kts which was about right, with round about 5 kts a lot of the time. The barometer is steady although the wind has picked up slightly and backed into the east. I have a feeling more of the same tomorrow and with a trip distance of 44nm to Night Island I think I’ll have to start getting the anchor up at first light.

Any way, tomorrow is the longest leg up to Cape York that we have planned, another seven legs to go the ‘Top End’, arriving around the 23rd then. With 700nm from the Cape to Darwin which I’m planning on doing in one jump (say 7/8 days) apart from probably having to anchor and wait for the tide somewhere around Cape Don timing is looking good.
