Aided and abetted by Helen I started to strip the thing down, aiming to
remove the engine from the drive shaft so I could get at the gear-engaging
mechanism. Abject failure! Got so far but then couldn't remember (or work
out) how Simon stripped it down last time (in Cartegena, where he repaired
the gear selector mechanism). So, using a lot of penetrating spray and
applied brute force, I managed to free off the gear selector, so now it
works again, albeit with a bit of difficulty. Took the dingy for a long
run to blow the cobwebs out of the engine and when I switched itr off it
was still working fine :)
Bolstered by that, I repaired a pair of 'ever-so-slightly-ripped shorts
and made an emergency repair to the Tilley hat, until I can get it to a
dealer and find out if they stand by their lifetime warranty.
Moorea is a very attractive place, we're anchored just off a beach which
is good for people watching. The weather is not great, but at least the
boat is getting a series of free washes. Pictures will be posted once they
have been taken.
We had the first party on board the other night since the last one, a long
time ago if you don't count drinks with Kilkea 2 when they hauled out in
the same yard as us a couple of days ago. Can't remember all the boats,
Calypso & Vagabond ( two South African boats, Lilley & Otto, Marilyn and
Paul). An American couple and a pair of itinerant Brits off another cat.
I'll get the names right one of these days!!!
