Effing Weather

Northerly winds for the next three or four days, then.......well it'll
change of course but it looks like the classic weather pattern for leaving
NZ may establish itself.
The idea is to leave on the back of a Low pressure system as it goes to
the East of NZ, which gives Southerly winds, perfect for going North! At
the moment we've had a socking great High to the NE of us, which gives
Northerly winds (winds go anti-clockwise round a High in the Southern
hemisphere) and a series of Lows coming across the Tasman Sea, which wind
up to the NW of us, which also gives Northerly winds. The High has been
quite intense, so the winds have been too strong to beat against, so here
we've sat. Apparently this is due to change (oh yeah?????).
Anyway, the ICA Rally left for Tonga last Friday afternoon and so far have
either had to motor or have managed 3 - 4 kts sailing in 'confused seas'.
many complaints of queasiness if not down-right sea-sickness, so the rest
of us feel justified in not having left!
More later, no doubt but in the meantime we are all 'monitoring the
weather' and grumbling a lot.
