After an extremely pleasant five day stay in San
Sebastian de La Gomera, time to move on. The town has changed a bit, but still
very pleasant and laid back, almost untouched by tourism despite the ferries
arriving every couple of hours. Actually, that pretty much describes the whiole
island. Moonshiner and I took a bus ride to Valle Gran Rey, over the mountains,
the same as we did 13 years ago. Then, Valle Gran Rey was a sort of haven for
German hippies, now it's changed considerably, but still pleasant.
I had hoped to go to La Palma for a couple of days
before returning to Gran canaria to pick up visitors, but with the wind forecast
to veer more to the east over the coming week, I didn't want to 'put myself
behind the eight ball' time-wise, so decided to return to GC, breaking the trip
overnight at Los Christianos. It's now not permitted to anchor where we anchored
13 years ago, but I'm in a small bay just to the west of the harbour (with nine
other boats). Very open to the SSE round to the NNW, but the weather is settled
and I'm here for one night, moving on towards Pasito Blanco
tomorrow.
Thinking about food planning for the Atlantic
crossing, with three male occupants, anticipated crossing time 20
days:
30 X onions
lots of garlic
20 Bimbo long-life bread
20 litres long-life milk
loads of muesli
20 tins of corned beef
120 cans of beer
20 litres of wined (10 red/10 white)
Fishing gear.
I think that about covers all the major food
groups! Any wives/daughters got any comments?
Oh yes, nearly forgot the bananas!!!! I'm certain
that covers it.
