This may be labelled Baie de Taioa on Google Earth, but the bay is known as Daniel's bay after a local couple, Antoinette and Daniel, who lived here for about 60 years.
Anyway, I went on an Island tour yesterday with Aurora B & Mohea. We had a good guide, Leonard, who's english was good enough to give us a flavour of the island. saw most of the usual sights, Tikkis etc. Interestingly, according to Leonard, some of the locals have more or less abandonned the Chirch and gone back to the older form of worship (sans the cannabilism, we think!). The roads are the usual concrete (where they aren't dirt tracks), the French put up 80% of the cost and the locals the rest. This is a spectacular island and the entrance to Daniels bay is invisible from the sea until you're almost inside; one of the most spectacular entrances I have ever been through.
I'm in the process of making a short video of the island tour which I'll put on my facebook page as soon as we get wifi again. Right now it's difficult to get a satelitte signal due to the mountains so not too sure when this will actually get posted, today is the 11th June, we'll be here until early next week then head off for the Tuamotos, which should take about 4 days (495nm).
