We'd moved down to Paroa Bay, which is about 7 or 8 nm inland (uo the
river towards Whangerei). The wave was forecast to be one metre this
morning and it 'should' have passed here by now. I spoke to the local Port
Control on the radio at 0530 this morning New Zealand time and local
knowledge reckoned that if we felt anything at all it would be a minor
surge. We possibly felt a minor disturbance but no real sign of anything
so imagination is a great thing. The Tsunami warning is still in place and
there is a possibility of further waves, but fingers crossed all is OK.
Thoughts are with the Japanese, the power of nature is not to be
underestimated. The Maoris spoke of 'the Earth being angry with us' after
the NZ earthquake. It's difficult not to think that they may have a
point.
