Position at 1800 UTC 07/05/10
Noon to noon run (OK, 1100 local to 1100 local for
the truly pedantic) 162nm
We shifted course 10degrees furter west last night
to stay above the 5S Latitude line because of feorecast stronger winds, but in
the event they didn't happen so around 0730 local this morning we resumed a
direct track to the Marquesas. I downloaded some GRIB files this morning and
they indicate more of the same for the next three days, i.e. ESE winds at about
fifteen to eighteen knots, then they strengthen a little. Mind you, I've noticed
that all the GRIB files go the same way, up to 72 hours ahead they're reasonably
accurate then from 72-96 hours ahead inevitably forecast stronger winds, which
never actually materialise. We'll see.
All well on board (apart from the fridge, which is
infuriating. The cold plate gets down to a certain temperature then refuses to
go lower. We can keep the UHT milk chilled once it's opened but I'm worried
about cooling down the beer and wine for our arrival-still, if that's the least
of my worries.....:)
Plenty of flying fish in evidence, some on the
deck, and intruigingly we find at least one or two small squid on deck each
morning. Never fresh enough to fry up but we live in hope.
Emails are appreciated by all so keep them coming
folks (this means you, Williams).
