 Stopped to sew a gennaker

Pulau Medang 16/09/13

Well then boys and girls, I had a great start to the day, averaging a tad over 4kts. Right, we are go for Bali I thought to myself.

R-R-R-I-I-P-P-P-P

Ah, no we are go for Pulau Medang to repair the gennaker. What was that about a stitch in time? I should have stayed put this morning and done it but there you go, press-on-it is.

Possibly fortunately as I took the gennaker down one of the old repairs (not one of my previous efforts) gave way so maybe I was lucky. Had it have gone ten miles past Pulau Medang then it would have been a major problem getting back.

Anyway, no lights to take an anchor transit but I’ve been here seven hours and haven’t moved…famous last words?

I have perhaps half a days work to finish off the repairs so I might stay tomorrow night as well. I need calm conditions to get the sail back up on my own. I just hope these repairs get me to Bali never mind Malaysia, the sail really is rotten. I have christened it Frank as it now has so many stitches and patches. I’ll leave you to think about that.
