Well beam me up Scotty, I'm now the proud possessor of a 4G dongle. Not everybody can say that, now can they. Apparently the speed will take my breath away but so far I have to say I haven't experienced any breathing difficulties.
I also have a new SIM card for the faithful Nokia. You'll have to work out codes for yourselves if you have a mind to but the number is
0401222175
In my never ending quest for adventure I spend Boxing Day morning re-anchoring the boat so I wasn't immediately adjacent to a stone wall and an abandoned bicycle at low tide. I had put out a kedge so at 0530, when I realised that the main anchor had too much scope and had allowed me to actually swing through 180 degrees, I upped both anchors and started over again. I still go aground at low tide but that isn't a problem. Interestingly, the leak, the main 70 litre per hour jobbie, has stopped. No, not just when I'm aground (I'm not silly, I thought of that!) but also when my boat is floating. This tells me that the leak must be in the bottom of the keel which in turn tells me that I'll have to make sure I can get to the bottom of the keel when (if) I haul out.
Having existed for the last ten days on rice and beans I went shopping today and treated myself to a reduced-price steak. Actually the supermarket prices at first glance are not too bad. I just need to get some pineapples and sugar to get a new batch of home brew on the go, although Paul's (Calypso) mate Terry produced a bottle or two of sparkling white for which he paid A$6.
Glad to hear from Henning (Smiley) that he and his boat survived the cyclone that hit Fiji. Apparently a lot of damage on the west Coast, Musket Cove, Lautoka etc etc. Haven't heard anything about Suva.
Just started a new book, having 'plotted' it on the crossing. A new Karno story but at the moment I'm not too certain if it's going to be a novella, a full length novel or just a long short story. Whatever, I have set myself the task of writing at least four hours a day so it should see the light of day soon. No news from Emma the Agent recently but this time of year the traditional publishing industry seems to go into hibernation.
Hope you all had a merry Crimbo and I trust the hangovers won't be too vicious on New years Day.
