Singh's, of the Shetland Isles. Why you may ask, I certainly did. Was it
perhaps the rain? Or possibly the fact that having brought as bottle of
wine the sales assistant proceeded (as always) to place it in a brown
paper bag? Attending local dances in Sumburgh was always fun; they didn't
have a liquor licence at any of the venues, so the 'carry-oots' (normally
'Shetland Roses', aka Mcewans[spelling?] export in a red can and/or a 'wee
dram') were smuggled in in ubiquitous brown paper bags which of course
nobody noticed or was it, just possibly, because Nicola the Publisher had
sent me a chatty email and had said that her husband was involved in the
Offshore Oil Industry and she had noticed in my 'bio' that I had been as
well. No matter.
Sanding continues at a relentless pace, in between tea breaks, lunch
breaks and shoot-the -shit breaks. I splashed out and ignoring much
well-meant advice (to wit 'stay away from women, sharp objects and
motorbikes) brought an orbital sander thingie, from a female sales
assistant. Initially my chap Kuto was fascinated by it, but then became a
bit less enthusiastic when he realised how fast the thingie was compared
to sanding by hand. His visions of a lifetime's employment sanding
Trouters faded before his very eyes! Actually, there's so much to do that
even with the thingie going full blast and munching its way through
sand-paper at an alarmingly expensive rate, I reckon we'll just about
manage to get all the woodwork sanded down and oiled before I disappear
into the wild-blue yonder and return to Blighty towards the end of next
month (a quick trip to see family/friends and no doubt spend lots of money
on electronic gizmos).
AND WHAT'S MORE, IT'S MINE, MINE I TELL YOU AND NOBODY ELSE IS ALLOWED TO
USE IT because it's fun!).
SO THERE!!!
