what I'd paid so far (and still owe). As far as I can reckon it, including
various taxi fares, materials etc etc, the total cost is F$16500, say
£6.3K depending on exchange rate. As far as salvage operations go, to get
a boat off a reef after a couple of weeks and more or less intact
(well....that's stretching it a bit I suppose) not too too bad.
A good day today; I was able to remove the under bridgedeck access panel
without breaking it and yes, it was possible (just) to reach the required
spot, so whilst Andy kept me nuts in a firm grip I (un)screwed a lot and
eventually the bolts came out. The davit can now be repaired, hurrah!.
Both anchors/chains have been taken from their place of initial
abandonment and stored. Carolyn has done a wonderfdul job on the ships
bell (hereafter referred to as my ding a ling, and believe me it's amazing
what results when industrial strength, acid-based cleaner is rubbed into
your ding a ling). Andy managed to mantle the sliding 'patio door' so it
now in fact slides and Caolyn after she had finished rubbing my ding a
ling got bored (most women seem to get bored either before, during or
after, alas) and in a uniquely female response to boredom cleaned under
the bridgedeck.
Finally, or firstly to be more precise, a visit to the Apple store to see
about a new screen for the Powerbook resulted in me offering F$200 (parts
and labour) to have a nice second-hand screen fitted. I should know on
Monday if it was an acceptable offer and if the newer screen will fit my
older computer.
As the guy who jumped off the top of the Empire State building was heard
