A surprising trip here. The anchorage last night at
Cabo de La Vela was not a great spot (flies and moths, of all things. It was
pretty windy and although the holding semed OK (in thick mud, as it turned out)
by mutual agreement, after a couple of hours rest we up anchored at 1705 local
and set sail for Bahia Guayraca. Then we motor sailed for Bahia Guayraca and
finally shortly before dawn this morning we motored for Bahia Guayraca! Not what
I was expecting off the Colombian coast, I was thinking more like 10 kts under
bare poles in 50 kts of wind and deploying the Jorden series drogue to try and
slow down!!!
Anyway, we're here. Simon has just leapt over the
side and reported the water as cold, 2 metres vis and murky. Perhaps I won't go
snorkelling tomorrow. The San Blas isles sound more attractive by the minute.
Possibly move around the corner tomorrow to an anchorage near the town of Santa
Marta then onwards to Cartegena. We're probably 4 days
away.
