In the quaintly named 'Dickies Bay'
Updates, right New Years Eve I drove down to Auckland to pick up 'Sammie the Seal' who turned up 12 months late (stretching a woman's prerogative a bit too much?).
New Years Eve was spent in the company of Helen & Gordon/Liz and Mike on board Mantra anchored off Russell. Since then we've visited a number of anchorages in the Bay, trying to find good places for when visitors arrive next month.
Photos were taken this morning from the lookout point on Roberton island, the place where Capt: Cook first landed in NZ (and the scene of his first 'punch up' with the locals. Plans are now to anchor in the Bay and watch the Tall Ships race on saturday, then back up to Opua for a sort of 'farewell party' with Mike & Liz who are off north about NZ then going back to Blighty for a bit. Hopefully we'll catch up with the 'Seff Africans' (Calypso & Vagabond) at the same time. Wind/weather allowing, we'll head south to Whangerei (pronounced 'Fongerai'~don't ask) for a couple of weeks to see de & Hev, then back up to the BOI to receive visitors.

in the first lagoon (bottom of the picture) there is a snorkel nature trail. Although we've both swum several times Sammie now has a slight cold and I just hate it when 'yer gonads' make their way to a warm bit of the old bod. That being so, we postponed the trail until the sun is shining!
