Aitutaki, Cook Islands.
FP has been very expensive (in more ways than one!) but even without the
'close encounter of a reef kind' I'm pretty sure I would be happy to be en
route again. People are very pleasant and you can buy almost anything you
want here, but you pay 'top dollar' for everything and there is absolutely
no concept of customer service, which if you're paying through the nose
for everything except bread, you want.
Strangely enough, although the 'books' all say Bora Bora is very touristy,
there aren't many here at the moment so the town/island is pleasantly laid
back (but still expensive of course). The anchorages are deep but the
holding has been reasonable in sand, with clear water. I'll leave you with
a couple of piccies, the Bora Bora Yacht Club (which is actually a
restaurant) and a canoe race.
The trip to Aitutaki should take around 4 days (480 nm) depending on wind,
so for those who email we'll be back on the sat system from tomorrow, no
hitting the reply button, please delete all previous messages in the
email. I imagine there'll be internet in Aitutaki.
