Just to prove that not everything can go right, 'Amresh the Canvas' reckons that the zips need replacing on the bimini. All fine and dandy BUT, for some obscure reason here in Fiji they only have black or white zips in the appropriate size (and of course you'll have noticed that the bimini is neither of those colours) and they are F$18 per metre! As I'm not pressed for time I could import the zips, but it occured to me that it might be pleasing to the eye to have contrasting colours, sort of like whitewall tyres.
STOP THE PRESS; I GOTTA SCOOP; HOLD THE BACK PAGE! (eh? Surely that should be....)
Amresh the Canvas just called, the zips are OK. The price re-doing the stitching (with UV resistant thread), replacing the clear panel and windscreen sections none of which are exactly clear any more), replacing the track On the coach-roof which holds the windscreens in place and refitting comes to F$550 (£205 at today's exchange rate), not too bad. I did haggle him down a couple of hundred, because as we all know, 'you're supposed to haggle. Fifty shekels for that, you must be mad!'
SANDAL SAGA:
I have replaced the $30 pair. I now have a $35 pair, which have a thicker sole so naturally I'm looking for increased mileage/kilometer-age. Of course the trip to Blighty will interrupt things but I feel that it's a trifle unlikely that I'll be wearing sandals in Aberdeen
