Been a productive day today. It started with me being very generous and 'donating' 2 litres of petrol to a passing Kuna family in a Yamaha-powered dugout canoe. Then I finished chapter 5 of the book 'wot I am writing'. Then we had a cooked breakfast (wait for it, I am getting to the 'make & mend', honest Guvnor!). THEN, I got my backside and stiched the mainsail bag (it might actually stay stitched, time will tell). Si tackled the helm seat, which proved a bit problamatical. He discoverd (after we had removed the base of the seat by me finding new and exciting places to crawl into and put a spanner on nuts whilst he undid locatong screws) that the valve on the compressed-air strut which lowers and raises the seat had stuck open, so the seat naturally gracefully slid down to the lowest position. By removing the hydraulic strut and replacing it with two blocks of wood, the chair is now at a reasonable height whilst we ponder the Mk11 fix.
We spend a pleasant afternoon on Kilkea, the Canadian Amel. Very nice too, well thought out systems and you could get to absolutely everything. It had a washing machine, dish washer, 200 litre per hour and watermaker plus 8KVA generator as standard. Electric winches etc etc......the only thought that occured to me was what happens if the generator gives up the ghost. In fact, the only thing missing was the second hull. Si lost his balance after being onboard for two minutes and I certainly noticed the boat moved around more than Trouters. Oh, and I think we have more living space, which considering the Amel is 53ft LOA ain 't bad!!!
Off up the coast about 5 miles tomorrow to a village where apparently the school master speaks good English and has written a book on Kuna customs & culture. No sign of the ruins of the Scottish settlement here, which was a little disappointing, but hey ho.
I gather snow is forecast again in Blighty. Enjoy!!!!!
