Wind and sea have settled down a bit now, basically
wind ESE/15-20kts and sea state moderate with a ESE/SE swell around 2.5 metres
with the occasional 3 metre 'jobby' from the South which throws us around for a
few seconds, but basically pleasant sailing. We're averaging around 6.4/ 6.5 kts
which should see us in Fatu Hiva early afternoon (local time which will be UTC
minus 9.5hours) on the 18th, provided nothing changes which according to
the grib files I downloaded this morning it won't. 'The Goils' are eagerly
looking foreward to something called 'Dry Land' and have decided that extended
Blue Water cruising is not for them but I think they're both glad they made the
trip. From the Marquesas to New Zealand is a series of 1000nm 'hops' which I'm
told they can do standing on their heads but three weeks at sea is a bit too
much. Fair enough, this isn't for everybody and they're both in good humour so
all is well on board.
Frey's birthday tomorrow, 16th, so I hope she gets
a few emails, even if you've never met her. She's duty chef for the day
tomorrow, but Helen & I have volunteered to take over the cooking and give
her a day lounging around (because we're both 'wunnerful peeps').
As I type, 459.80 nm to
go!
