Anchor up 0630, anchor down 1450
Averaged just over 5 kts on this leg, very pleasant except, yes indeed, no Sun again. A dreary, overcast day which finally decided to rain just as I came into the anchorage!
It may not be that hot but boy is it humid! Anyway, barometer still steady so fingers crossed for tomorrow. 48nm to Margaret Bay then after that either four short 25nm hops to Cape York or one 48nm run then two short hops. If this wind holds it would be tempting to go for the three day route but then again we’re really in no hurry. Four short days would mean Cape York on the 22nd. Hopefully a 3G signal to send all these blog entries off and see what’s in the inbox then say eight days max (fingers crossed, spits etc etc) to Darwin. Fairly comfortably by the 7th which leaves 20 days before departure to Ambon.
So far we haven’t heard of a dingy dock anywhere in Darwin and as neither boats are intending (or can afford) to go into one of the locked-marinas this could be a problem. Allegedly there is a one-time fee for using the lock of A$250 and then there’s the marina fees. Outrageous if true.
Apparently there is a restaurant here. Yes really, and a gravel road to an airstrip. No 3G signal though. A good prawn lunch can be had for A$15 per head. Tempting but nah! Reports of a 3 metre croc in the bay meant I wasn’t tempted to row across to Calypso in the rain.
